What is: Love the Oceans
Love the Oceans is a non-profit marine conservation organisation working in Jangamo Bay, Mozambique since 2014. Jangamo, whilst home to a huge host of marine life, has never been studied in depth for any prolonged amount of time. Love The Oceans is working to protect and study the diverse marine life found here, including many species of sharks, rays and the famous humpback whales. We use research, education and diving to drive action towards a more sustainable future. Our ultimate goal is to establish a Marine Protected Area for the Inhambane Province in Mozambique, achieving higher biodiversity whilst protecting endangered species. We have developed cutting edge, ethical marine conservation programs that give individuals the chance to get hands on conservation experience, working alongside our marine biologists doing research, community work and diving in Mozambique. Love The Oceans was recently recognised as 1 of 15 global grassroots #forcesforchange by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and received international recognition for our work.

Description
Typical day at the center
Early wake up depending on the activity you're doing but most people rise and rest with the sun. Week days are spent on one of our principle activities after the intense training week participants go through to get them up to scratch on our field techniques. Field research e.g diving is conducted and then logged in the afternoons/evenings. Dinner is eaten as a whole group, everyone together to decompress and discuss the day. A volunteer group might be 16 in total (max) but during the day people are split into 4 groups of 4 so everyone has been doing something different each day. This ensures constant data collection & everyone gets experience in everything.
Activities
- coral reef surveys - humpback whale surveys + bioacoustic research - whale shark & manta ray ID surveys - fisheries research - ocean trash research - community outreach: swimming lessons - community outreach: basic marine resource management lessons
The volunteers in this animal rescue center generally get 2 day(s) off a week. In regards to working hours, the volunteers work per day 10 hours/working day.
Food and accommodation
The food served is mainly locally sourced. We operate with a 'farm to fork' policy - we know the people the food has been grown by. We are able to cater for specific diets e.g veganism and some allergies e.g coeliac. However, we are unable to cater for severe peanut allergies at this time.
Animals
The animals they take care of in this center are:
Dolphins, Marine Wildlife, Sharks, Turtles, Whales
